Pushpin (pushpinlocal.com) lists local events. We collect as little as we can to do that. We don’t sell your information, we don’t show ads, and we don’t track you across other websites.

Pushpin is run by Upside Studio, Inc., 1613 Chelsea Rd. #313, San Marino CA 91108 (“we”). Questions about this page or your information: hello@pushpinlocal.com.

If you just browse

You don’t need an account to look at events, and we don’t ask who you are.

  • Cookies. We use only cookies the site needs: one remembers the last town you looked at, and, if you sign in, others keep you signed in. No advertising or analytics cookies.
  • On your device. Your browser keeps some things for you in its own storage: recent searches, whether you’ve seen the welcome, your choices about location and notifications, and, if you sign in, a copy of your saved events and settings so pages open quickly. We don’t read this storage from our side; clearing your browser’s site data removes it.
  • Server records. Like every website, our hosting provider keeps short-lived records of requests (such as the IP address, browser and page asked for) to run and protect the site.

Your location

If you turn on Use my location, your browser tells the page where you are so it can show how far events are. Your position stays on your device: it is never sent to us, stored or shared. Turn it off in Account › Location or in your browser’s settings.

If you create an account

We keep:

  • your email address. If you use Continue with Google, Google also gives us your name and profile picture; we show the name and its initials on your Account and don’t use the picture;
  • the events and dates you save, the organizers, places and categories you follow, the reminders you set, and your notification settings.

We use these only to run Pushpin for you: your saved events on every device, reminders, and news from what you follow. Nobody else sees your name or what you saved; pages show only how many people saved or follow something.

Email

  • The weekly email. If you subscribe, we keep your address, the town, when you subscribed and confirmed, and your email settings (pauses and unsubscribes). If you subscribe with an address that isn’t your account’s, we first email it to confirm.
  • Emails you asked for. Sign-in links, confirming a subscription, checking a page claim, and what happened to an event, correction or claim you sent us. If your account has reminders, follows or changes set to email, those too.
  • Our record of what we send. For each email: the address, the subject, when, and whether it was delivered, bounced or marked as spam. We use it to avoid sending twice and to stop emailing addresses that bounce or complain. We never keep the body of an email.

Every email has an Email settings link, the weekly email an Unsubscribe link too, and mail apps’ own Unsubscribe button works for it. If you unsubscribe, we keep your address marked as unsubscribed so we don’t email it again.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, your browser gives us an address at its push service (run by Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft, depending on your browser) and the keys to send to it. We keep these with a short label such as “Chrome on Mac”, for your account. Each notification passes through that push service. Signing out removes this for that browser, and you can turn notifications off in Account › Notifications or your browser’s settings.

What you send us

  • Events you add: the details you enter, any flyers or photos you attach (kept privately for review), and the email address you give us so we can tell you what happened.
  • Corrections: what you tell us, and your account if you’re signed in.
  • Page claims: your name, role, email and, if you give them, a phone number and a note.
  • Town requests: the town and, if you give it, your email.

We use these to review and publish events and to reply to you. Published events are public. When you use Fill in with a link or a flyer, that page or file is sent to Anthropic’s Claude to read the event’s details (only when you’re signed in).

To stop spam we count how often forms are sent from the same internet address and to the same email address. We keep these only as scrambled codes that can’t be turned back into the address. The counts are deleted after two days; a code stays with a page claim or an uploaded file so we can spot abuse.

Where events come from

We collect events from public calendars, websites and newsletters, and use Anthropic’s Claude to read the pages and newsletters that don’t publish a calendar feed. Each event links to where it came from. These sources are about events and organizations, not about you.

Who helps us run Pushpin

These companies process information for us, only to provide their service to Pushpin:

  • Vercel: hosts the site.
  • Supabase: our database, sign-in and file storage.
  • Resend: sends our emails.
  • Sentry: receives reports when something breaks (the page, the browser and what went wrong, without cookies, form contents or account details).
  • Anthropic: reads event pages and newsletters, and the links and flyers you ask us to read.
  • Google: Continue with Google, if you use it, and the inbox where our email arrives.
  • Cloudflare: forwards email sent to our addresses to that inbox.
  • OpenFreeMap: draws the maps, so your browser loads map images from it.
  • Push services (Google, Apple, Mozilla, Microsoft): deliver notifications, if you allow them.

Our information is stored in the United States. Links you choose to follow (directions, adding to a calendar, tickets, an organizer’s site) take you to those sites, which have their own privacy policies.

How long we keep it

  • Your account stays until you delete it (Account › Delete account). Deleting removes your saves, follows, reminders, settings and notification subscriptions at once.
  • Events you sent stay, because some are public listings, but they’re no longer linked to your account. Flyers and photos that were never sent with an event are deleted after a day.
  • Email: your weekly email settings stay until you ask us to remove them; our record of emails sent is kept so we never email someone who said no.
  • Spam counts are deleted after two days.

Write to hello@pushpinlocal.com and we’ll delete anything else we have about you that we don’t need to keep by law.

Your choices and rights

  • Change what we email and notify you about in Account, or from any email’s Email settings link.
  • Unsubscribe from the weekly email with one click. Emails that answer something you did (a sign-in link, your event’s review) come only when you ask for them.
  • Turn location and notifications on or off at any time.
  • Delete your account from Account.
  • Ask us at hello@pushpinlocal.com for a copy of your information, or to correct or delete it. We’ll answer within 30 days.

California residents have these rights under California law, and we honor them for everyone. We don’t sell or share personal information for advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of, and we treat you the same whether or not you use these rights.

Keeping it safe

The site only runs over an encrypted connection. Sign-in uses secure cookies that scripts on the page can’t read. Only the people who run Pushpin can see the information above. No system is perfectly secure; if something goes wrong that affects your information, we’ll tell you.

Children

Pushpin is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us information, write to hello@pushpinlocal.com and we’ll delete it.

Changes

If this changes, we’ll update this page and its date, and email account holders about anything important. See also our Terms.
