Click here to register and view the trailer.Caltech proudly presents Cosmic Coda (Astrophysics for Dairy Cows), a film by MJ Doherty about the teamwork required to develop LIGO over 40 years (minus a 30-year hole in the middle). This monumental NSF-funded project was developed on both the Caltech and MIT campuses. The film, featuring a haunting score by Room Full of Teeth, will be screened for free in Beckman Auditorium on Monday, November 9, 2026, at 7:30 PM with a panel and Q & A following featuring Caltech professors Kip Thorne and Rana Adhikari and the film's director.Though Thorne, whose work on LIGO dates to 1968, is not in the film, he was the theorist for the project; an equal partner in the conceptualization and design of LIGO.Thorne will convey a contextualized understanding of the processes that led to he and his two colleagues receiving their Nobel Prizes.Reservations are highly recommendedPlease note: Reservations are good until 15 minutes before the event starts, at which time people in the standby line will be allowed to take unclaimed seats.Click here to register and view the trailer.Presented by Caltech's Division of Physics, Mathematics, and Astronomy and Movies That Matter.
